He was born October 21, 1920 in Minier, the son of James B. and Minnie E. Bratcher. He married Bernice Bratcher on April 30, 1983. She and her family survive. He is also survived by his daughters, Donna (Jim) Menssen and Mary A. A special niece, Faye (Dave) Geiger also survives.

A son, Randy and a grandson, James, as well as four sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

Don was a retired Bloomington Firefighter and Illinois State Fire Marshal Inspector. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific Theatre on the escort carrier USS Kadashan Bay. He was also past commander of VFW Post 454, Bloomington.

Don was very proud of his service in both his military and professional careers. He lived a long life and we are grateful for the many years we were able to spend with him.

A special thank you to the staff at Heritage Health in Normal and the Transitions Hospice team as well as to the Bloomington Fire Department for inviting him in to visit and talk about the old days. It made his last year wonderful.
