Obituary for Franklin J. Smith

Franklin J. Smith, 71, of Bloomington, passed away at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Heritage Health in Normal.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 3, 2018 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home with a memorial service following at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Krista Price officiating. Military rites by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard will conclude the service. Interment will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield at a later date.

Frank was born May 6, 1947 in Bloomington, the son of Harold and Hazel Lane Smith. He married Peggy Jaeger on April 20, 1973 in Normal. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Lora (Tom) Schoen of Round Lake and Alesha (Tim) Russell of Atlanta, GA; two sons, Lance (Melanie) Smith of Bloomington and Nicholas (Rachel) Smith of Navarre, FL; seven grandchildren, Gunner, Tyler, Dillon, Hailey, Colton, Jayce and Payton; a brother, Harold Smith of Prairieville, LA; two sisters, Sue (Dave) Nalley of Alva, FL and Judy (Al) Gibson of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Frank was a US Navy Vietnam Veteran and served as a medic for the Marine Corps. He worked for Eureka Company for thirty-three years. After retirement he enjoyed working at El Paso Golf Club for more than fifteen years.

Frank had a passion for golf and had six recorded holes in one. For 30 years, he and Peggy vacationed with friends on golf trips. They also enjoyed their winters in Florida and spending time on the beach.
Frank truly loved his family and extended family. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

The family would like to thank the staffs at the Community Cancer Center, Heritage Health of Normal, and OSF St. Joseph Medical Center for their care and compassion.
