Arlee J. “Jack” VanHook Obituary (1936 - 2021)

Arlee "Jack" VanHook, 84, of Bloomington, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2021 at his home. A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Friday, July 2, 2021 at Scogin Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. Cremation rites have been accorded by Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate or Wishbone Canine Rescue. He was born July 29, 1936 in Bloomington, son of Arlie G. and Bernice Simmons VanHook. He married Alberta Hall. Surviving are his children, Mark VanHook and Julie (Woodrow) Morton, both of Bloomington, Janice VanHook of Georgia, Bryan (Brigette) VanHook of Maine and Kent (Nevada) VanHook of Normal; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Joan Ives of California, Florence Schroader of Bloomington and Sharon (Greg) Burger of TX and one brother, Lawrence VanHook of Florida. He was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Ava Mattson and one son-in-law, Steve Kowalski. Jack was a United States Air Force veteran. He retired in 1997 from Eureka Company. Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed working in his garden and watching baseball. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the missionaries of the church, as well as to Dr. Cash, OSF Cancer Center and Jack's neighbors for their compassion and time spent with Jack. They would also like to thank OSF Hospice for their care in Jack's final days.
