Christine H. Schanaberger Obituary (1948 - 2017)

Christine H. Schanaberger, 68, of Bloomington, passed away at 9:50 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2017 at her home. Her memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2017 at St. Patrick Church of Merna with Rev. Michael Pica officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, in assisting the family with arrangements. She was born December 31, 1948 in Chicago, the daughter of Stanley and Helen Kopenski Hais. She married Charles J. Chuck Schanaberger on December 9, 1972 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on November 11, 2008. Surviving are two daughters, Kelly Schanaberger of Bloomington and Terri (Gil) Brockway of Bloomington; two grandchildren, Charlie and Brooke Brockway; her dog and granddogs, Patches, Daisy and Clubber; sister-in-law, Patricia Schanaberger; brother-in-law, James Schanaberger; sister-in-law, Anne McGriff; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen (Kevin) Pitstick; brother-in-law, Joseph (Joanne) Schanaberger; two special cousins, Leslie Rennie and Karen (James) Free; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a special aunt, Lorraine Rennie; a sister-in-law, Retta Schanaberger; and a brother-in-law, Bob McGriff. Chris graduated from Providence High School in Chicago prior to her employment with Harris Trust Bank. She later was a homemaker for many years prior to earning her associates degree from Daley College in Chicago. After relocating to Bloomington, Chris worked in Medical Records at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, retiring after twenty years of employment. Chris enjoyed reading, crosswords, movies and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a lifelong Chicago White Sox fan and dog lover. The Schanabergers would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Spencer family for all of their care and support over the last several years.
