Dan Littell Obituary (1932 - 2017) - Bloomington, Illinois

Dan Littell, 84, of Bloomington, passed away at 3:40 p.m. on Monday, January 16, 2017 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal. There will be no services or visitation. A private inurnment will be at Lyons Cemetery, London Mills, IL at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded by Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. He was born December 28, 1932 in London Mills, IL, son of William and Merle Rose Littell. He married Patricia Shriber in 1957 and they had three children. He later married Martha Little Brown in 1989, she preceded him in death in 2011. He was also preceded in death by a step-daughter, Darla Brown in 2013. Surviving are two daughters, Leslie Littell of Normal and Dannette (Michael) Cardwell of Akron, OH; one son, Chris Littell of Bloomington and one step-daughter, Dena Brown of Apopka, MN. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Jason Spencer of AZ, Roxanne Cardwell of TX and Michael Cardwell of OH and one brother, Tom (Becky) Littell of London Mills. Dan graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Knox College in 1961, where he was active in basketball and baseball. He was proud to be captain of the 1959 Basketball Team that was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2007. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the VFW Post #454 since June 6, 1974 and was a former member of its board of directors. Dan began his career at FS Services in 1962, where he traveled frequently to Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois. FS Services later became Growmark, Inc, where he retired in 1994 as Petroleum Division Manager. He enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, hunting, fishing, morel mushroom hunting and playing softball for Beer Nuts in the 1960s; but his greatest passion came from playing the game of golf. Dan was a member of Crestwicke Country Club since 1974, where he also received multiple awards for his "Hole-in-One" accomplishments. He was also a winner, multiple times, of the City Tournament at Highland Golf Course and remained active in the golfing network within the community up until the time of his death. Dan will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for walking, never riding, the golf course, while enjoying a cigar. He could also be found walking his beloved dog, Abbie. He will be missed dearly by those who loved him.
