David L. Gaddy, Sr. Obituary (1959 - 2016)

David L. Gaddy, Sr., 57, of Normal, passed away at 7:49 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2016 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.His memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, with Rev. Jim Henning officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the start of the service at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Childrens Hospital of Illinois or to Habitat for Humanity.He was born April 15, 1959 in Bloomington, a son of Bobby Lee and Rita Rose Phelan Gaddy. He married his high school sweetheart, Stephanie A. Rupp on August 11, 1979.Surviving are his wife, Stephanie Gaddy of Normal; daughter Amy (Trafton) Rich and their boys, Hunter and Marshall, all of Bloomington; daughter Lindsey (Jeff Ohlendorf) Gaddy of Boulder, CO; son David Gaddy, Jr. of Normal; his siblings, Debbie (Bruce) Askins of Clinton, Rita Ann (Robert) Williams of Bloomington, Will (Sue) Gaddy of Woodstock, Bridget (Bob Helgeson) Gaddy of Bloomington and Paul Gaddy of Bloomington; his mother-in-law, Norma Rupp of Normal; a sister-in-law, Debra Livezey of Chenoa; a brother-in-law, Douglas (Brenda) Rupp of St. Louis; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Eldon Rupp Jr.David was a 36-year employee of State Farm Insurance Companies in Bloomington where he worked as a technical analyst. A skilled carpenter, he had a hand in building every house in which his family called home in addition to crafting a majority of their furniture. He was a 40-year member of the Fraternal Mens Bowling League and lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs.David took great delight in coaching his children in the ways of life, and especially enjoyed teaching them to golf. An avid golfer himself, he scored a hole in one. David and Stephanie took countless trips to Vegas, one of their favorite vacation getaways, and the family is sure hes looking for a royal flush in Heaven.David was a graduate of University High School and liked to joke with his wife that the EdD after her name stood for enough degrees for the both of them.David was proud to be a registered organ and tissue donor and his family was honored to follow his wishes for donation.He was the best husband (OSTB), dad, grandpa and hero.
