Edward A. Thetard Obituary (1922 - 2015)

Edward A. Thetard, 92, of Normal, died at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at his home. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. There will be no visitation. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to OSF Hospice, 211 Landmark Drive, Normal, IL 61761 or to a charity of the donors choice. He was born September 22, 1922 in Chicago, a son of Carl and Margaret Boharski Thetard. He married Harriet L. Oblander on July 18, 1946 in Chicago. Surviving are his wife, Harriet Thetard of Normal; four sons, Thomas E. (Lisa) Thetard of Normal, Jon C. (Susan) Thetard of Mackinaw, Daniel A. (Anne) Thetard of Spring Hill, FL and Louis E. (Denise) Thetard of Oak Park, IL; a daughter, Margaret (Robert) Knapp of Hudson; seven grandchildren, Rev. Stacia Thetard, Tiffany (Ryan) Roby, Benjamin Knapp, Blake (Dana) Knapp, Brandon Knapp, Samuel Thetard and Anna Thetard; and two great-grandchildren, Liam Roby and Aiden Roby. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and a foster son, Andre Sorrell. Ed attended Illinois Wesleyan University where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army Medic Corps during WWII. Ed retired from First Federal Savings Loan as President and CEO. During his working years, Ed was an active member of the community, participating in many civic and charitable organizations. In his retirement, he enjoyed living on the farm in Hudson raising cattle. He attended First Presbyterian Church in Normal. His family would like to extend their appreciation to OSF Hospice and to the Blair House for their tremendous support in recent months. Ed was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
