Fred W. Gaskins Obituary (1955 - 2017)

Fred W. Gaskins, 61, of Bloomington, passed away at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, with Rev. Ken Martin officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association. He was born July 13, 1955 in Martinsburg, West Virginia, the son of Robert James and Marie Warnken Gaskins. He married Cindy L. Hedger on May 16, 1981 in Florence, Kentucky. Surviving are his wife, Cindy Gaskins of Bloomington; a step-son, Starkey Hedger of Bloomington; two step-grandchildren, Casey and Mason Hedger; four sisters, Kathy Gaskins, Linda (Randy) Durham, Chris (Paul) Cushman and Carolyn (Scott) Rhodes; and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Fred attended the University of Kentucky and retired from Verizon. He enjoyed golf, sailing, and was a talented carpenter. Fred had a passion for technology and airplanes and was a licensed pilot.
