Gary "Zip" Trent Obituary (1947 - 2014)

Gary "Zip" Trent, 66, of Hudson, passed away at 3:03 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at his home.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Hudson United Methodist Church, with Rev. John Tymonko officiating. Interment will follow services at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, where the local fire departments will perform a walk-through at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Benefit for Scott Bettisch, c/o First Farmers State Bank, Bloomington, Hudson United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donors choice. He married Cherryll "Cherry" Walker on November 24, 1966 in Sibley.Surviving are his wife, Cherry, of Hudson; two daughters, Teri (Brian) Rueger of Bloomington and Dawn (Steve Davis) Trent of Danvers; one son, Jamie (Melissa) Trent of Normal; seven grandchildren, Katie, Taylor, Andy, Brandon, Mason, Ryan and Emma Jo. Gary also leaves behind his close friend, Dave Churchill and his entire team of firefighters that he often referred to as "My Men."rnrnZip was a firefighter with the Normal Fire Department, where he also taught and trained firefighters in fire science. He retired from the fire department after 28 years in 1998. After retirement, he worked with Metcom for 12 years, where he assisted with the computer aided dispatch systems and maintained departmental run plans for McLean County. He was a member of Normal Firefighters Local 2442.He enjoyed fishing, working on his 62 Chevy Impala, antiquing with his wife and collecting sports memorabilia with his son, Jamie. Zip was also an avid Chicago Bears fan, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.Zips family has requested that family and friends attending the visitation and services dress in casual clothing.
