Gerald W. "Jerry" Fryer Obituary (1940 - 2016)

Gerald W. Jerry Fryer, 76, of Bloomington, passed away at 9:10 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Martin Health Center, Bloomington. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, with Rev. Randy Reese officiating. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery,rnBloomington. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, December 26, 2016 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Central Illinois, Calvary United Methodist Church, Normal, or to the Mary Bryant Home for the Blind, Springfield. He was born January 30, 1940 at Methodist Hospital in Peoria, the son of Chester and Rozella Fryer. He married his grade school sweetheart, Nancy Kay Smith on June 25, 1961. Surviving are a son, Michael (Michelle) Fryer of Bloomington; two brothers, Bradley (Sheila) Fryer of LeRoy and Daniel (Alvah) Fryer of Galesburg; a sister, Jane (Ronald) Wolschlag of Normal; four grandchildren, Christopher (Haley), Nathan, Ryan and Victoria Fryer; a step-brother, Rocky (Shirley) Lester of Galesburg; and a sister-in-law, Carol Robinson of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy on August 11, 2014; his son, David Wayne Fryer on January 18, 2014; his daughter, Barbara Elaine on August 28, 1962; and a brother, Russell and sister-in-law, Josephine, both in 2016. Jerry graduated from Yates City High School, where he was active in baseball, basketball and all areas of music, including band. He attended Illinois State Normal University for two years. During his 42 year career in accounting, Jerry worked for the local Bloomington newspaper in advertising and for their credit union, the Central Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church as Assistant Conference Treasurer, Illinois Wesleyan University as Assistant to the University Comptroller and Senior Financial Advisor for State Farm Insurance Companies Illinois Office Accounting Department until his retirement in 2003. He taught adult and junior high Sunday School classes for over 25 years. Jerry enjoyed playing music for several years at area nursing homes and had been active in Cursillo and Walk to Emmaus since 1975. To express condolences online, please visit www.carmodyflynn.com.
