Glenn F. Leary Obituary (1953 - 2013)

Glenn F. Leary, 59, of Bloomington, died at 6:32 am, Friday, October 11, 2013 at his home.His funeral will be at 10:00 am, Wednesday (10-16-13) at St. Marys Church with Rev. Ric Schneider officiating. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm, Tuesday at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home with the Rosary recited at 7:00 pm.Memorials may be made to the Loaves Fishes Soup Kitchen at St. Marys Church or to University High School Athletics (to be used for the basketball program.)rnrnGlenn was born on December 15, 1953 in Spring Valley, the son of Francis J. and Anne C. DeCoste Leary. He married Lynn E. Wilz on August 18, 1984 in Normal. She survives.He is also survived by one sister, Mary (William) Lindsey, Bloomington; two nieces, Ranie Kelley, Bloomington and Amie Thompson, Orlando, FL and two nephews Gene Joe Kelley, both of Bloomington; seven great nieces and nephews; his in-laws, Jack Shirley Wilz, Normal; a sister-in-law, Lea Ann Wilz, Normal and a brother-in-law, Dave Wilz, Bakersfield, CA.Glenn was a graduate of University High School, attended Illinois State University and the University of Kansas. He was a member of Laborers Local 362, Bloomington and worked for Rowe Construction for 33 years.Glenn was a member of St. Marys Church, Bloomington and volunteered for the past 3 years at the Loaves Fishes Soup Kitchen. He was a 27 year volunteer with the UHigh basketball program and was known as "G Man" to his UHigh family. Glenn spent 3 winters at the Bloomington Library painstakingly researching UHigh Boys Basketball statistics from 1910 to the current year. He compiled these statistics and created a book that has become the historical record of UHigh statistics. Because of his efforts in this book, Glenn was inducted into the Illinois High School Associations Basketball Hall of Fame.Glenn was proud that he was adopted and during his eulogy at his fathers funeral stated that "being adopted was the luckiest day of his life."rnrnOne of the great joys in Glenns life was in 2001, taking his father to Omaha Beach in Normandy, where his dad landed on D Day, June 6, 1944 during WWII.His interests included photography, European travel, sports and music.Glenn had a great capacity for friendship and was blessed with many lifelong friends.
