Helen L. Miller Obituary (1937 - 2016)

Helen L. Miller, 78, of Lexington, passed away at 1:47 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. Burial will be in Pennell Cemetery, Towanda. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. She was born October 5, 1937 in Woodson, Illinois, a daughter of Slayton Fredrick and Fern Louisa Harney McCurdie. She married Paul T. Miller on March 28, 1957 at Towanda. He preceded her in death on May 21, 1997. Surviving are her children, Eric (Chona) Miller of Saratoga Springs, New York, Lora Harms of Lexington and Matt (Angie) Miller of Bloomington, three grandchildren, Nichole Harms, Joshua Harms and Blake Harms; a brother, Michael (Sharon) McCurdie of Towanda; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Brad Harms. Helen enjoyed taking care of people and spent over twenty years working in several area nursing homes as well as serving as a volunteer with hospice. She was a huge movie buff and also enjoyed reading, music, playing cards and crocheting. Helen loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities as well as caring for her dog, Zoey.
