Helen M. Rasmus Obituary (1940 - 2014)

Helen M. Rasmus, 73 of Bloomington, formerly of Oneida, IL, died at 2:10 am, Friday, July 04, 2014 at her home.Her funeral will be at 10:30 am, Wednesday, (7-9-14) at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington with Rev. Chet Travis and Rev. Carl LoPresti officiating. Interment will be private. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 pm, Tuesday (7-8-14) at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to OSF Hospice, Bloomington.Helen was born on November 28, 1940 in Pontiac, the daughter of Edward and Kathryn Ruddy Doughan. She married Walter "Carl" Rasmus on April 22, 1959 in Odell. He preceded her in death on June 26, 2008.Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis (Otto) Schulz, Chenoa and Lori (Jan) Elam, Bloomington; one son, Dennis Rasmus, Bloomington; eight grandchildren, Brandy (Joe) Foster, Heather (Evan) Ward, Megan Schulz, Nicole (Matt) Wing, Ryan Elam, Abbie Rasmus, Liz Rasmus and Isaac Rasmus; six great grandchildren, Jackson Foster, Cameron Foster, Jansen Miller, Brayden Miller, Mackenzie Ward and Maverick Ward; four sisters, Mary K. Carson, Chicago, Francis Meredith, Normal, Sharon (Jack) Beller, Pontiac and Nancy (Bob) Green, Pontiac; one brother, Ed (Karen) Doughan, Odell; and many nieces and nephews..She was preceded in death by her parents.Helen was a 1958 graduate of St. Paul High School in Odell. She had worked for Sears Department Store in Bloomington and later worked at two different Country Companies agents, in Oneida, IL and Marion, IL.Helen loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was proud of her Irish heritage. To know her was to know that she was the boss and her love and concern for her family was at the heart of all she did. She fought a difficult battle with cancer, but is now at peace. She will be greatly missed, but is now in the arms of our heavenly Father and has been reunited with the love of her life, "Carl."rnrnThe family would like to thank Phillip and Bernice Rasmus for the special care they provided Helen in the past months. Through their generosity, Helen was able to avoid nursing home care and stay with family.
