Herman C. Rutledge Obituary (1929 - 2017)

Herman C. Rutledge, 88, of Bloomington, passed away at 8:20 p.m. on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal. His Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 15, 2017 at Point of Change Church of the Nazarene, 2407 Beich Road, Bloomington, IL 61705 (located within the IBEW Local 197 building). There will be no visitation. Cremation rites have been accorded by Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. A private inurnment will be at Troyer Cemetery at a later date. Herman was born September 13, 1929 in Scottsville, KY, son of John and Sarah Carver Rutledge. He married Grace C. Foster on January 28, 1951 at Danville. Surviving are his wife, Grace of Bloomington; three sons, Gary (Barb) Rutledge of Hudson, Paul (Annette) Rutledge of Ellsworth and Kevin Rutledge of Normal; six grandchildren, Staci Rutledge, Beth Cogburn, Jarod Rutledge, Zachary Rutledge, Sarah Rutledge and Jacob Rutledge. Also surviving are one great-grandson, Logan Cogburn; one son-in-law, Steve Reardon; one brother, Mack Rutledge of Heyworth and one sister, Sophie Bates of Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Ruth Reardon; one granddaughter, Amanda Rutledge; one brother, Clarence Rutledge and one sister, Anna Parido. Herman was very active in the First Church of the Nazarene in Bloomington for 74 years. He last worked for 18 years at Illinois State University in building service and maintenance. He was an avid toy collector, especially antique cars and trucks. He also was very talented at caning chairs. Herman loved the Lord and his family; especially his grandchildren. Even when his health failed, his faith never did!
