Ilene A. Mitchell Spencer Obituary (1926 - 2015)

Ilene A. Mitchell Spencer, 88, of Chapin, SC, formerly of Bloomington, IL, died on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at St. Patricks Church, Bloomington, with the Rev. Jeffrey Windy officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, where a service will be provided by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #454 at 6 p.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal immediately following funeral services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 454. She was born May 28, 1926 in Decatur, IL, to George and Hilda Radley Alexander. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Joseph and Hilda Radley McGrath. She married Wesley Mitchell on October 11, 1952, he preceded her in death in June of 1979. She later married Cleveland Spencer on October 14, 1988, he preceded her in death in November of 1995. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffrey Mitchell and one sister, Maurine Josefik. Surviving are a daughter, Diane (Stephen) Watchinski of Chapin, SC; two sons, William Mitchell of Bloomington and James Mitchell of Chapin, SC; four grandchildren, Gregory Mark Watchinski, William Frantz and Tanner Mitchell. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kyla, Tyler, Logan Wrigley Watchinski and two sisters, Kathryn McGrath of Bloomington and Marilyn Kruml of Chicago. She was a member of St. Patricks Church in Bloomington and also a member of its Altar and Rosary Society. Ilene worked for 38 years as a sales clerk at Moberly Klenners in Bloomington. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #454, a member of the Military Order of Cooties Womens Auxiliary and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
