Irene W. Jumper Obituary (1922 - 2014)

Irene W. Jumper, 92, of Bloomington, passed away at 4:00 am on Friday, June 20, 2014 at her home.Her funeral will be at 11:00 am Friday at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington with Rev. Keith Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm, Thursday at the funeral home.Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church or the Western Avenue Community Center.Irene was born on June 11, 1922 in Bloomington, the daughter of Charles Bernard and Irene Foy Wiedmann Watson. She married Raymond L. Kelly on April 29, 1944 in Washington, DC. She married Samuel Richard Jumper on September 4, 1982 at Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomington. He survives.She is also survived by a daughter, Karen L. (Richard) Nelson, Edmond, OK, a son, Brian L. Kelly, Fairfax Station, Fairfax, VA; three grandchildren, Jessica Watson, Sean Nelson and Jennifer Nelson; one great grandchild; three brothers, James Watson, Normal, Richard Watson, Missouri and John Watson, Bloomington; five step-children, Richard A. (Janet) Jumper, Bloomington, James L. (Marilyn) Jumper, Springfield, Rena (Dave) Hrupsa, North Carolina, Gary Jumper, Urbana and Donna (John) Deterts, Bloomington; 11 step grandchildren and 16 step-great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by a brother, Roland Charles Watson, a sister, Mary Weatherley; and a step-son, Dennis Jumper.While in Virginia, Irene worked for Chesapeake Potomac Telephone for 2 years and the Internal Revenue Service for 7 years. After moving back to Bloomington, she worked for General Telephone for 9 years.Irene was a member of the American Business Womens Association, VFW Post 454 Ladies Auxiliary, Eagles, Western Avenue Community Center and Wesley United Methodist Church, all in Bloomington.Irene was also a foster mother for many years. Through Catholic Charities, she took care of many babies before they were adopted and also took in many teenagers as well. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
