Jack W. Miller Obituary (1937 - 2014)

Jack W. Miller, 76, of Normal, died at 9:54 pm, Thursday, March 13, 2014 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.His funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday (3-18-14) at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal with Rev. Daniel Gifford officiating and Rev. Ric Schneider concelebrating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday (3-17-14) at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be for one half hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.Memorials may be made to Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal.Jack was born on September 24, 1937 in Peoria, the son of Walter Joseph and Evelyn Chenowith Miller. He married Linda J. Bryan on April 29, 1967 in Peoria. She survives.He is also survived by two sons, Darren (Lisa) Miller, Morley, MO and Eric (Kim) Miller, Newberg, OR; five grandchildren, Justin (fianc" Jessie) Chase, Stephanie Turner, Johnathan, Ally and Hunter Miller; and a niece, Roberta (Don) Yoder, Morton.He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin sister, Jackie and an older sister, Mary Kay.Jack was a 1955 graduate of Woodruff High School and in 2005 they celebrated their 50th class reunion. He also attended Bradley University. He was a draftsman and worked for Pabst Blue Ribbon in Peoria Heights for 10 years. He then worked for General Telephone for 21 years as a draftsman. He designed and blueprinted the grid for the linemen to set the telephone poles.Jack enjoyed carving, fishing, target shooting and was a self-taught harmonica player. He was a woodworker and had designed and built his own furniture as well as his own boat when he was younger. Jack was a member of SIRS Radio Airplane Club and built and flew his own planes. He was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church in Normal and served as an usher for many years.Jack had a love of mathematics and enjoyed helping and teaching children whenever possible. Jack had a special bond with each of his grandchildren and loved them dearly. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed.
