John "Doc" Colteaux Obituary (1948 - 2013)

John A. "Doc" Colteaux, 65, of Bloomington, died at 8:50 pm, Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.His funeral service will be at 3:00 pm, Sunday, (12-22013) at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington with Rev. Carl Lo Presti officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service until 5:00 pm at the funeral home. A private family burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington at a later date.Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Central Illinois.Doc was born on September 18, 1948 in Urbana, the son of W.J. and Lucinda Walker Colteaux. He married the love of his life, Mary Angela Erickson on May 8, 1981 in Bloomington. She died on October 4, 2006.He is survived by three siblings, Carolyn Colteaux, San Tan Valley, AZ, Jeffrey, Colteaux, Buckeye, AZ and Corrine (Bob) Bretz, Paxton; three nieces, Holly Andrews, Phoenix, AZ, Carissa (Clay) Nelson, Rantoul and Miranda Bretz, Rantoul; and four great nieces.He was preceded in death by his parents.John graduated as Valedictorian of his high school class in 1966 and later attended Eastern Illinois University and graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in History and a minor in sociology. He worked as a union cement finisher and union steward for nearly twenty-five years. John then found another love of his life, antiquing. He was a highly knowledgeable antique dealer and relished getting good deals on antiques and then selling them for big profits.Doc was an avid Chicago Bear and White Sox fan.
