John V. Reeves Obituary (1923 - 2016)

John V. Reeves, 93 of Bloomington, passed away at 3:22 a.m., Friday, October 7, 2016 in Bloomington.A private family graveside service will be held at St. Marys Cemetery, Bloomington. There will be no public visitation. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.Memorials may be directed to St. Marys Church or the charity of the donors choice.John was born August 25, 1923 in Gridley, Illinois, the son of John V. and Joanna Sweeney Reeves. He married Helen Griffin on June 4, 1949 at St. Marys Church in Bloomington. She survives.He is also survived by two daughters, Janet Lewis and Elaine OBrien, both of Bloomington; five grandchildren, Steve Long, Tony (Kim) Long, Krista (Jeff) Walsh, Traci Graves and Andrea OBrien; 2 great-grandchildren, Peter Neururer and David Knudsen; a great-great granddaughter, McKenzie Knudsen; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.He was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Reeves,two sisters, Rita Ashenbremer and Ellen Pinkham and a son-in-law, James Lewis.John was a 1940 graduate of Trinity High School. He served in the US Army during WWII and was a lifelong member of the American Legion. John had a lifelong career with the railroad and had many jobs over the years and retired as an Amtrak engineer.The family would like to thank all the extended family and friends that came to see John over the years.
