Jon Serapin Obituary (1946 - 2017) - Bloomington, Illinois

Jon Serapin, 70, of Bloomington, passed away at 11:41 a.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at his home.A brief memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 3, 2017 at Carmody-FlynnrnFuneral Home, Bloomington and will conclude with military rites by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will follow the service until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A private family burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Quincy, IL.Memorials may be made to SPCA, USO, Wounded Warriors Project, Toys for Tots or any charity of the donors choice.Jon was born April 7, 1946 in Chicago, a son of John A. and Lillian M. Prchlik Serapin. Jon is survived by his mother, Lillian Serapin; a sister, Judy (Jerry) Dehart, two sons, Jon J. (Paula) Serapin and Timothy T. Serapin; a step-son, Jason M. (Cindy) Kamphaus; six granddaughters, Heather, Amber and Zoey Serapin, Gemma, Lily and Isabel Kamphaus; and his first wife, Denise Houchin Serapin.Jon was preceded in death by his father and his second wife of 19 years, the love of his life, Mary J. Kamphaus.Jon was a Sergeant in the United State Marine Corp. He served in Viet Nam and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was an electrician and a member of IBEW Local 197 in Bloomington.
