Lillian "Ruth" Foster Obituary (1923 - 2017)

Lillian Ruth Foster has reached her final destination. She left from her apartment in Bloomington, as she wanted, and arrived at her forever home on Wednesday, Dec. 27 at 2:00 am. There she met her Savior and family who have gone on before her, including her husband, Harold P. Foster. Her famous angel food cake is now truly heavenly.Ruths story began May 20, 1923 in Oklahoma City, OK, when she was born to Ezra and Rebecca Ropp. They moved to Chicago when she was five. At age 15, she became a follower of Jesus, and would ride the trolley an hour each way to church by herself. On November 7, 1942 Ruth married Harold, a farmer from Carlock, whom she met visiting her cousins during the summers.Ruth and Harolds farm was the center of many Foster family reunions, creating memories for several generations. She was known for her farmers wife cooking, and, of course, her homemade angel food cake. Ruth cooked many meals at First Church of the Nazarene. She began teaching Sunday School when she was sixteen and taught a class into her nineties. Being an avid Cubs fan, she was thrilled to see them win the World Series.Loved ones who will miss Ruth until they meet again are her three sons: Fred (Nina) Foster, Oaktown, IN; Mark (Peggy) Foster, Florence, SC; and John (Deb) Foster, Bloomington, IL; her grandchildren: Glenn Foster, David Foster, Mark Foster, Mindi Marx, Jenny Klouse, Katie Yates; and many great grandchildren, one of whom carries her name.Her memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Bloomington First Church of the Nazarene.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Bloomington First Church of the Nazarene, 2207 N Towanda Barnes Rd, Bloomington, IL 61705.
