Lois B. Schroeder Obituary (1912 - 2016)

Lois Schroeder died December 21, 2016 in her sleep. Born August 4, 1912, she achieved the age of 104. She and her husband George farmed near Alma Center , Wisconsin for many years. She was born in Lake Mills, Wi, the oldest daughter of J. Martin and Esther Raasch. Her father was a Lutheran minister. She graduated from Milwaukee Hospital school of nursing and worked as an RN for many years, most recently at the Krohn Clinic office in Alma Center and at the county nursing home in Black River Falls. She moved to Overland Park, Kansas to live with her daughter and family, then to Grace Willowbrook assisted living in Eau Claire. For the past year she has lived at Oakbrook Villa, Altoona, Wi and moved December 6 to Bloomington, Il where most of her family live now.She enjoyed gardening, cardinal birds, her cats and loved to play Spite and Malice with her friends. She was active in Homemakers for many years, and traveled with a Jackson county group many times.She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Charles) Bartels, and son, Raymond Schroeder, two grandchildren, David Bartels and Ann (Eric) Groonwald, three great-grandchildren Noah. Claire and Olivia Groonwald, and a sister, Trudy Blied . Her husband George died in 1980.Her sisters Norma and Marie and brothers Elmer and Gilbert also predeceased her.Memorial service will be held at St Mark Lutheran Church in Normal on January 5, 2017, with interment of cremains later in the spring at the cemetery in Alma Center, Wisconsin. It is requested that memorials be dedicated to Community Living Opportunites in Lawrence, Kansas in honor of her handicapped grandson David who was very dear to her heart.
