Margaret V. "Marge" Irvin Obituary (1932 - 2016)

Margaret V. Marge Irvin, 84, of Bloomington, passed away at 10:10 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Sugar Creek Alzheimers Special Care Center, Normal. Her funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Historic St. Patricks Catholic Church, Bloomington, with Rev. Jeffrey Windy officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, where the rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Historic St. Patricks Catholic Church or to the Alzheimers Association. She was born February 6, 1932 in Bloomington, a daughter of Eugene and Emma Lucille Harris Auth. She married Robert K. Irvin on July 10, 1950 in Bloomington. He preceded her in death on October 14, 2003. Surviving are a daughter, Victoria (James) Grimsley of Bloomington; a son, Daniel (Sharon) Irvin of Bloomington; six grandchildren, Dawn (Steve) Thornton, Will (Nichole) Grimsley, Leah Irvin, Daniel (Catie) Irvin, David (Tiffany) Irvin and Luke (Amber) Irvin; seven great-grandchildren, Alex, Taner, Brianna, Stella, Colton, Levi and Dalton; two brothers, Eugene Bud (Norma) Auth of Bloomington and Wesley "Whitey" (Jan) Auth of Towanda; and a sister, Kathy Irons of Cortland. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Betty Griffith, Mary Jean Hefler and Joyce Hitzner. Marge was a member of Historic St. Patricks Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She also spent many years teaching CCD at St. Patricks. Marge was a dedicated homemaker until her children were in high school. She then spent 39 years working in the lunchroom at Epiphany Grade School, a job she adored. She enjoyed the fellowship of the teachers and students alike and delighted in serving her famous spaghetti to former students who returned to have lunch with their own children. Marge and her husband traveled extensively throughout the United States and especially enjoyed the time they spent in Hawaii, Mexico and on many cruises. More than anything, Marge loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Marges children would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to three very special nieces, Pam Schweitzer, Connie Young and Cindy Heitz, who lovingly cared for Marge as if she were their own mother.
