Michael F. Steil Obituary (1925 - 2015)

Michael F. Steil, 90, of Normal, died at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Heritage Health in Normal. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, where visitation will be one hour prior to services (10:30-11:30a.m). The Rev. Jeffrey Windy will officiate. Inurnment will immediately follow services at Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Patricks Church, Bloomington. To express condolences online, please visit www.carmodyflynn.com. He was born January 11, 1925 in Tulsa, OK, son of Rolland N. and Nell Corbin Steil. He married Peggy Ball in 1953. He later married Loretta Jarvis on October 12, 1979. Surviving are his wife, Loretta, of Normal; his children, Ginger (Steve) Benson of Scottsdale, AZ, Vicki (Ray) Maguinness of Las Vegas, NV, Toni Steil of Shepherd, MT and Eva Steil and Rolland Steil, both of Las Vegas, NV; three step-sons, Dale (Janet) Jarvis of Grand Rapids, MI, Brian Jarvis of Houston, TX and Scott Jarvis of Bloomington. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Ryan Megan Maguinness, Melinda (Weston) Adams, Wilea (William) Johnston, Colby (Katurah) Steil and Kristi (Casey) DeBerg; 11 step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren and one sister, Rose OBrien of Katy, TX. He was a United States WWII Navy Veteran, where he served 2 " years in the South Pacific Ocean. Michael first worked as a roughneck in the oil fields in west Texas. He retired in 1985 after a long career as a lab foreman at Amoco Chemical, Joliet. He also enjoyed woodworking, which was a hobby he started over 25 years ago.
