Michael "Scott" Bettisch Obituary (1962 - 2014)

Michael "Scott" Bettisch, 51, of Downs passed away at 7:23 pm, Thursday, April 10, 2014 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.His funeral will be at 10:00 am, Wednesday, (4-16-14) at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington with Pastor Mark Moore officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery, Downs. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 pm, Tuesday (4-15-14) at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Downs Community Fire Protection District, Living Hope Christian Church or Illinois Cancer Care.Scott was born on October 25, 1962 in Normal, the son of C. Michael and Sharon Hulfachor Bettisch. He married Janice S. Hamblin on July 14, 1984 in Downs. She survives.He is also survived by one son, Jon Bettisch of Downs; his father, Charles "Michael" (Linda) Bettisch, Bloomington, one brother, Chad (Gwynne) Bettisch, LeRoy, his mother-in-law, Beverly Hamblin, Downs; one niece, Samantha Bettisch, LeRoy and two nephews, Jay (Briana) Hamblin, Columbus, IN and Daren (Amanda) Hamblin, Carlock. Also best friends, Eric (Stephany Hite) Smith and Ed (Jill) Belcher.He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother, Guy Bettisch.Scott graduated from Tri-Valley High School in 1980 and received his EMS Certification through Heartland Community College. He was instrumental, along with the trustees, in starting the Downs Ambulance Service and has served as the EMS Chief at the Downs Community Fire Protection District since its beginning. His passion was EMS and teaching EMS. Scott taught 100s if not 1000s of student over the years.Scotts second passion was vacationing in Disney World, which he and Janice did several times a year. He loved to "feed the mouse" and had a trip planned for the end of April.Scott was a Downs Village Board Member for many years and headed up the Downs Haunted House for many years with his brother Chad. He enjoyed motorcycles and being a DJ for family and friends. He was also a racing enthusiast, was affiliated with the Southtown Motorsports ARCA team for many years with his friend Eric Smith.Scott was a loving husband, father, son, brother, son-in-law, uncle and friend. His influence on his family, friends and the EMS/Fire community will be greatly missed. God definitely has another amazing angel.
