Michael T. Dickerson Obituary (1942 - 2022)

Michael T. Dickerson, 79, of Downs, passed away at 10:04 a.m., Sunday, March 27, 2022 at Carle BroMenn Medical Center, Normal. His funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2022 at St. Mary's Church, Downs with Rev. Dustin Schultz officiating. Military rites will follow and be performed outside the church by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday at Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal. Memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Church, Downs. Mike was born October 4, 1942 in Bloomington, the son of Mont Dickerson and Margaret Miller. He married Ruth Jurgelas on October 30, 1965 in Bloomington. She survives. He is also survived by two children, Shelley (William) Wilson-Miller of Heyworth and Michael T. (Nancy) Dickerson of Bloomington; eight grandchildren, Meghan (Scott) Ditman, Ryan Wilson, Brittany Wilson, Tyler Kelch, Nathan Dickerson, Danielle Miller, Luke Miller, Jessica Miller, Karen (AJ) Sellberg, Forrest (Maggie) Bishop, Steven (Hannah) Bishop and Skye Bishop; ten great-grandchildren, Brilee Dickerson, Carley Dickerson, Jayden Sellberg, Aliza Bishop, Lincoln Bishop, Tobias Bishop, Amylia Bishop, Atlas Bishop, Matilda Bishop and Caroline Bishop; and two sisters, Peggy Dodson of Bloomington and Kathleen (Andy) Emery of Idaho. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dan (Mary) Dickerson. Mike graduated from Trinity High School and served in the US Marine Corps. He worked as a Carman on the Rip and Repair Track for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. Mike loved being outdoors and gardening. He enjoyed community sales, old cars and collecting car/garage memorabilia, especially Texaco; watching westerns and A Christmas Story every year at Christmas time. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time at family get togethers.
