Mildred L. "Millie" Hoeniges Obituary (1939 - 2016)

Mildred L. "Millie" Hoeniges, 77, of Bloomington, passed away at 11:01 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at her home. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Historic St. Patricks Catholic Church, Bloomington, with Rev. R. Anthony Lee officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital or to the Childrens Miracle Network. She was born January 17, 1939 in Towanda, a daughter of Albert and Arline Tipsord McGee. She married Martin Hoeniges Jr. on August 26, 1961 at Historic St. Patricks Catholic Church. He survives in Bloomington. Also surviving are three children, Debra (Philip) Hamm and Marcy (Kevin) Leach, both of Bloomington and Marty (Michelle) Hoeniges III of Daytona Beach, FL; nine grandchildren, Stephen Hamm, Andrew Hamm, Michael (Kati) Hoeniges, Jordan Leach, Jacob Leach, Joshua Hoeniges, Melissa Hoeniges, Amanda Hoeniges and Marty Hoeniges IV; four great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Kenzie, Carson and Gracie; a brother, William (Altie) McGee of Bloomington; and a sister, Carol Cope of Bloomington. She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Opal Murrell, Edith Higgs, Ethel Kerrick, Lois Veselack and Barbara Kerrick; a brother, Richard McGee; and a grandson, Jimmy Hoeniges. Millie graduated from Bloomington High School and dedicated her life to caring for her family. She was a longtime member of Historic St. Patricks Catholic Church and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society. Millie grew up in Bloomington, one of nine children in a home of very modest means. After marrying and having children, she later was very involved at her childrens school as a volunteer in various activities. Numerous health issues plagued her as an adult but she adamantly pushed on to do the things she desired. She was the leader of large family meals at the holidays every year. She loved to travel and vacation from one US coast to the other. Millie cherished the memory of her and Martys 25th wedding anniversary trip to Ireland. She took great joy in being a parent, grandparent and great-grandparent. We hope to continue Millies example in creating and treasuring memories with those we love.
