Nancy Jane Thomley Obituary (1927 - 2014)

Nancy Jane Thomley, 86, of Bloomington, died at 5:32 a.m. Monday, November 03, 2014 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.A celebration of life gathering will be from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, where a prayer service honoring Nancys life will be held at 5:30 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Metcalf School Allied Arts Evelyn Madigan Endowment in care of Illinois State University Foundation or to the Thomley family.She was born November 30, 1927 in Springfield, the daughter of E.E. and Mary Alice McBride Brown. She married Robert Carl Thomley on September 4, 1953 in Decatur and he preceded her in death on January 16, 1965.Surviving are a daughter, L. Jane Thomley of Bloomington; a son, Rob (Judi) Thomley of Acworth, GA; two grandchildren, Lindsey Thomley and Mallory Thomley; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Wickes of Champaign; five nieces and nephews, Ed (Mary) Jackson, Al (Debbie) Jackson, Marcia Wickes, Dianne Wickes and Bobby (Kaori) Wickes; and two cousins, Charlotte Stuckey and Robert (Phoebe) Goff.She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Bettie Jackson; two aunts, Helen Oneal and Pauline Goff; and a cousin, Mary Helen Kahn.Nancy earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Illinois State University. She worked as a speech language pathologist at Thomas Metcalf School, the Department of Speech Language Pathology at ISU and in the Decatur Public Schools. In later years, Nancy enjoyed substitute teaching speech pathology for the Tri-Valley, LeRoy and El Paso schools. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Normal and enjoyed attending Kaffehuset at St. Johns Lutheran Church. Nancy loved theatre, concerts, knitting, antiques and traveling, especially to the South.
