Norma S. Hackl Obituary (1935 - 2017)

Norma Hackl, 81, of Bloomington, passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington. Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017 at St. Marys Catholic Church, Bloomington, where visitation will be one hour prior to services. The Rev. Gregory Nelson will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded, Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. A private inurnment will be in Mansfield at a later date. She was born September 16, 1935 in Peoria, daughter of Edward and Pearl Thomas Dezonia. She married Richard G. Hackl on September 1, 1956 in Chicago, he preceded her in death on February 4, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Surviving are her daughter, Karen Hackl-Hunt of Bloomington; her son, Mark (Lynn) Hackl of Hamilton, IN and three grandchildren, Dr. Kristopher (Ashley) Hunt, Derek (Ashley) Hackl and Stephanie Hackl. Norma enjoyed her 37 years as an elementary school teacher. She worked for Bloomington District 87 and St. Marys School for most of those years before retiring. Norma was also a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society for Educators. She was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church, where she was very involved. Along with her husband Richard, they were instrumental in the formation of the Childrens Library, where she continued as a volunteer librarian. They also initiated the childrens liturgy and helped to design the format for the Childrens Christmas Mass, and she previously taught CCD classes at St. Marys and was a volunteer at BroMenn Hospital.
