Peggy Rust Johnson Obituary (1928 - 2016)

Peggy Minch Rust Johnson, 87, of Bloomington, passed away at 3:50 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, in Normal.Her Celebration of Life service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. The visitation will begin at 9:30 prior to the service. The Rev. Kathy Stoner-LaSala will officiate. A private entombment will be at Park Hill Cemetery Mausoleum at a later time.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, Bloomington, or Home Sweet Home Ministries.She was born December 14, 1928, in Bloomington, daughter of Frank P. and Dorothy O. McBride Minch. Peggy married Laurence "Larry" A. Rust, Jr. on September 2, 1950. Together they had four daughters, Ann, Catherine, Elizabeth and Laura. Larry preceded her in death on April 12, 1968. She later married Earle B. Johnson Sr. on April 30, 1972 and united with his family of four children, Earle Jr., Vicki, Julia, and Sheryl. Earle preceded her in death on July 16, 2005.Surviving are her children and step-children, Ann (Mike) Sullivan, Bloomington, Catherine Templin, West Palm Beach, FL, Elizabeth Rust, Bloomington, and Laura (John) Dirks, Hudson, and Victoria Johnson (Salvador Codina), Andorra, Julia Johnson, Denver, CO, and Sheryl (Dean) Gmoser, Sugar Land, TX; and her daughter-in-law, Margaret Johnson Greene. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren, Alison Sarah Templin, Hilary (Joseph) Norton, Caroline Dirks, Peter Dirks, Amelia Dirks, and Carrie (Adam) Carr, Jenny (Dan) Kling, Darby (Sean) McCollian, Susana (Juanjoh Marimon) Codina, Elena Codina, David (Beckie Roy) Gmoser and Greg Gmoser; and her five step great-grandchildren, Caroline Carr, Katie Kling, Declan McCollian, Axel Codina Marimon and Alexandra Gmoser.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her two sisters, Beverly Vance and Marcia Sandell.; her step-son, Earle B. Johnson, Jr.; and her son-in-law, Richard Templin.Peggy graduated from University High School in Normal in 1946, and from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, in 1950.Peggy was very faithful to the Lord and was a life-long member of Second Presbyterian Church in Bloomington. She was also a member of Antiquarian Club, Bloomington Country Club, Clio Club, and Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Association, and served on the board of the McLean County Day Care Center.Even with her many involvements, Peggy took great pride in being a homemaker, in cooking, in raising her children, and in entertaining her friends and family. She also enjoyed her time traveling the world with Earle for his work and for pleasure.Peggy will be remembered for her ability to make everyone feel welcome, whether it was an old friend or a new one. She had an amazing ability to remember names and faces. In her last ten years, even after the loss of her vision, Peggy was still very gracious, kept her sense of humor, and remained positive. When her family asked her how she had became such a wonderful cook, she replied, "I think I just added butter to everything."rnrnHer family is so thankful for the loving care that Peggy received during these difficult times from Elvia, Isabel and Ninoska.Our mothers love and wisdom will always remain with us.
