Phyllis J. Bruno Obituary (1939 - 2017)

Phyllis Jeanne Bruno, 77, of Bloomington, passed away at 11:59 a.m. Sunday, May 21, 2017 at her home. Her funeral will be noon Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal, with Rev. Eric S. Powell officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at the church. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Cure PSP at www.psp.org (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) or to Epiphany Catholic Church. She was born November 28, 1939 in Oak Park, a daughter of Philip and Helen Norrie Breider. She married James S. Bruno on June 24, 1961. He survives. Also surviving are her children, Thomas (Elsa) Bruno of Colorado Springs, CO, Jeannie (John) Atkenson of Orland Park and David (Barbara) Bruno of Bloomington; seven grandchildren, Lucas, Seth and Joseph Bruno, Erika and Michael Atkenson and Adam and Alexander Bruno; a sister, Helen Mattias; a sister-in-law, Louise Mansch; and a brother-in-law, Lester Eby. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Elizabeth Eby. Phyllis graduated from Illinois State University in 1961 with a degree in the education of deaf and hard-of-hearing. She taught the hearing-impaired in Buena Park, CA, Hinsdale, LaGrange, Bloomington and at the ISU Thomas Metcalf Lab School.
