Rev. Edgar Lee Webb Obituary (1925 - 2017)

Rev. Edgar L. Webb, 91, of Bloomington, formerly of rural Heyworth, passed away at 1:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Martin Health Center, Bloomington. His celebration of life service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomington with Rev. Vaughn Hoffman officiating. A private family burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, LeRoy. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m., Saturday at the church. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Webb was born November 10, 1925 in Kansas, Illinois, the son of Harry Lee and Mabel McVicker Webb. He married Shirley Jean Grove on June 23, 1951. She preceded him in death on November 7, 1958. He married Marietta "Marty" Althouse Keller on May 29, 1961 in Arlington Heights, IL. She preceded him in death on September 20, 2009. Survivors include four children Greg (Luann) Webb of Bloomington, Gail (Rod) Brady of Rockford, Kathy (Steve) Hettick of Wenatchee, WA and Bill Keller of Warrenton, MO; nine grandchildren, Nick and Jennifer Webb, Sarah (Mike) Ogdon, Amy Mayberry and Ben Brady, Christian (Erin) Hettick, Nathan (Sara) Hettick, Ingrid (Drew) Nishiyama and Jacob Keller; 12 great grandchildren; two brothers, Rev. Arthur Webb of Rockford and Tom (Doris) Webb of West Terre Haute, IN. He was preceded in death by four brothers and infant son, Keith Lynn Webb. Rev. Webb graduated from Kansas High School, served four years in the U.S. Navy, graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University and Garrett Theological Seminary. He was ordained as a United Methodist minister and served faithfully in Potomac, Tolono, Chatham, Milford, Tonica, Moweaqua, and Ridgefarm, Illinois, retiring from the ministry in 1977. He went on to work at the Ponitiac Correntional Center where he ministered to the residents there. He was very involved in C.U.P. (Citizens Upholding Persons) ministering to previously incarcerated people.
