Richard G. "Dick" Hall Obituary (1924 - 2014)

Richard G. "Dick" Hall, 90, previously of Lima, Ohio, passed away on November 26, 2014, at Heritage Health Senior Care in Normal, IL. His celebration of life service will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Chiles-Laman Shawnee Chapel, 1170 Shawnee Road, Lima, OH. Guests are invited to join the family at the Lima Eagles #370 for a celebration luncheon following interment at Rockport Cemetery.Dick was born June 29, 1924 in Beaverdam, Ohio, the son of Frank and Mary Hall (nee Baumgartner). He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 65 years, Pauline "Polly" Hall. Over the years, Dick and Polly lived in Cincinnati, OH; Shelbyville, IN; and Mt. Prospect, IL, before moving back to Lima, OH, when they retired. In 2012 they moved to Normal, Illinois, to be closer to their children. Dick was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Hall in 2012.Dick is survived by his sister, Doris Hall, of Lima, OH; his children: Pamela (Daryl) Floit of Carlock, IL; Steve (Theresa) Hall of Wonder Lake, IL; Rick (Mimi) Hall of West Chester, OH; Mike (Judy Lynn) Hall of Crystal Lake, IL; and David L. Hall. He will also continue to be remembered by his twelve grandchildren: Matt Floit, Aimee LoPresti Scaramuzza, Chastity Barnewolt, Lisa Rowan, Todd Floit, Melinda Hall, Rick Hall Jr., Wes Delk, David Hall, Frank Hall, Jeff Hall and Doug Hall; sixteen great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Theresa "Sis" Graham of Lima, OH, and Leah Otto of Ottawa, OH; and many loving nieces and nephews.Dick was a beloved husband, decorated WWII veteran, respected father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Although he did not like to talk about his war experience, he was awarded several medals for his heroic actions in the line of duty. He received the Silver Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Soldiers Medal for heroism when saving another soldiers life; the Bronze Star for outstanding performance on the 5th army front in Italy; the Purple Heart for being wounded while in action; the Good Conduct Medal for exemplary behavior and the WWII victory medal. After the war, Dick had a 34 year career with ATT and was extremely proud to be part of the "Longlines," from which he retired in 1986. Dick was an active member of the Lima Eagles #370, the Lima Moose #199, the American Legion, and the VFW. He was an avid bowler and enthusiastically participated in Senior Bowling Leagues at Northland Lanes and 20th Century. His quick wit and dry sense of humor were conspicuous to all and admired.Dicks greatest happiness came from sharing his life with his beloved wife, Polly. To the very last, Dick cherished her and the life they had built together. That great love will endure through the memories of those who were lucky enough to witness it. Everyone left behind is comforted knowing they are finally back together again.
