Roger K. Swartz Obituary (1948 - 2019)

Roger K. Swartz, 71, of Bloomington and formerly of Lexington, passed away at 10:40 a.m., Sunday, March 17, 2019 at The Loft in Normal. His funeral will be at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, March 21, 2019 at St. Patrick Church of Merna, Bloomington with Rev. Dustin Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Merna. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:30 a.m., Thursday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Special Olympics of Illinois. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements. Roger was born January 14, 1948 in Normal, the son of Amos Warder and Pearl Lorraine Mead Swartz. He married Linda A. Kinsella on July 5, 1969 in Merna. She survives. He is also survived by four children, Ann (Dan) Kauppi of Dunlap, Mary (Andrew) Sahr of Geneseo, Michael (Lorena) Swartz of Bloomington and Emily Swartz of Naperville; eleven grandchildren, Andrew, Will, Matt, Caroline and Sam Kauppi; Thomas and Alex Sahr; Jacob, Charlie, Gavin and Nolan Swartz; a brother, Russell (Lana) Swartz of Normal; and two sisters-in-law, Shirley and Karen Swartz. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Richard Swartz. Roger graduated from Lexington High School and Illinois State University. He worked for Country Companies for twenty-five years and then American Farm Bureau Insurance Services, where he served as Vice President and General Manager before retiring in 2007. Roger served on the board of directors for the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation, National Crop Insurance Services and Crop Insurance Research Board (CIRB), where he was a two-time recipient of the Chairman's Award. Roger was an avid fisherman and St. Louis Cardinal fan. He enjoyed spending time at his home away from home in Door County, Wisconsin. Roger loved following his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. He was a great husband, a great father, a great grandfather and an all around great man.
