Roger N. Whaley Obituary (1941 - 2017)

Roger N. Whaley, 76, of Lexington, left us to be with our Lord on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Eastview Christian Church, Normal, with Pastors Chris Moon and Mark Warren officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. Interment will immediately follow services at Lexington Township Cemetery, Lexington. He was born May 23, 1941 in Normal, son of William and Virginia Helbling Whaley. He married Janet Sutter on August 21, 1960. His loving wife of 57 years resides in Lexington. Also surviving are his three children, Steve (Sally) Whaley, Lexington, Tim (Sandy) Whaley, Yorkville and Patti (Les) Thomas, Lexington; his grandchildren, Matthew (Mollie) Thomas, Josh Thomas, Will (Erusa) Carmack, Michelle Carmack, Ryan (Sara Coon) Carmack, Kelly Carmack, Emma Whaley, Benjamin Whaley and Clare Whaley and his great-grandchildren, Maya Carmack, Reagan Thomas, McKinleigh Carmack and Prudence Carmack. Other surviving relatives include, one brother, John Whaley and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Roger attended Lexington High School and graduated in 1959. He also obtained an accounting degree from Illinois Wesleyan University, graduating in 1964. Out of high school Roger began working for the Eureka Company. He later managed the Village Student apartments in Normal and was the co-founder and president of Total Data Services, which later became ProInfo Consultants, Inc, in Bloomington. After his retirement, Roger founded Servants of our Lord Ministry in 2005, a nonprofit ministry delivering clothing, furniture and food annually to over 200,000 underprivileged people in the Kentucky Appalachians. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Suzanne Shumaker and a nephew, David Whaley. Roger was a very active member of Eastview Christian Church, where he served as an usher and also in the food pantry. He loved spending time with his family, traveling, and fishing trips to Wisconsin. Roger was loved greatly and will be missed by his family and friends.
