S. Blanche Sutton Obituary (1914 - 2017)

Senna Blanche Sutton, 102, of Bloomington, passed away at 11:04 a.m. Monday, January 16, 2017 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2017 at St. Marys Church, Downs, with Rev. Gregory Ketcham officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, 530 NE Glen Oak, Peoria, IL 61637 or to the Ladies of the Knights Auxiliary at St. Marys Church in Downs, 108 E. Washington St., Downs, IL 61736. She was born July 6, 1914 in Camargo, Montgomery County, Kentucky, a daughter of Henry Coleman and Senna Belle Richardson Kelly. She married Charles Francis Sutton on February 25, 1937 at the Holy Trinity Rectory in Bloomington. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1992.Surviving are three children, Ronald (Kay) Sutton of Bloomington, Wendell Sutton of rural Bloomington and Cindy Sutton of Bloomington; two grandchildren, Jeff (Leanne) Sutton of Heyworth and Tim (Staci) Sutton of rural Bloomington; five great-grandchildren, Mike Sutton, Brady Sutton, Nate Sutton, Matt Sutton and Loghan Sutton; and three great-great-grandchildren.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Edith, Opal and Lucille; and three brothers, Wayne, Wendell and Baird. Blanche was the last remaining charter member of Local 342 of the Paul F. Beich Candy Company. She was a Kentucky Colonel , an election judge for more than 25 years and a member of numerous local organizations. The oldest living member of St. Marys Church in Downs, Blanche was known as the pie lady by all of the members of the church. Her greatest role was as a farmers wife where she was active in helping her husband in the running of the farm.
