Shirley L. Niepagen Obituary (1937 - 2016)

Shirley L. Niepagen, 79, of Bloomington, passed away at 11:40 a.m., Monday, December 12, 2016 at Heritage Health in Normal.Her funeral will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home with Luis Garcia officiating. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be from Noon to 2:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.Shirley was born February 28, 1937 in Bloomington, the daughter of Thaddeus and Mary Hupman Weakley. She married Melvin Niepagen on May 20, 1955 in Bloomington. He survives.She is also survived by her five children, Cathy (Mark) Wurth of Summerdale, AL, Vicki (Jeff) McCain of Bloomington, Donald (Luis Garcia) Niepagen of Chicago, Eric (Toni) Niepagen and Steven (Rox) Niepagen, both of Bloomington; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; four sisters, Virginia Rengel of Danvers, Lillian (Bud) Thoman, Bonnie Slaughter and Lynn (Gary) Stewart, all of Bloomington; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings and a grandson, Justin Wurth. Shirley attended Bloomington High School and worked in the family business at Niepagen Greenhouses. She also helped out at AB Hatchery during the Christmas season for many years.Shirley was an avid reader and enjoyed the outdoors, especially birds and flowers.The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all of the healthcare workers that have cared for Shirley over the years.Shirleys life revolved around her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved her.
