Thomas James Jim Van Allen, 84, of Bloomington, passed away at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, in the presence of his family.His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2015 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal, with Monsignor Eric S. Powell officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Friday, September 18, 2015 at the church. Burial will be in Sauk City, Wisconsin.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic Spirit Radio 89.5 or Epiphany Catholic Church or the St. Vincent de Paul Society. rnrnHe was born April 20, 1931 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, a son of W.J. Van and Margaret Odenbrett Van Allen. He married Mary Ann Hutter on July 12, 1969 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Sauk City, WI and she survives in Bloomington.Also surviving are a son, David (Amanda) Van Allen of Bloomington; a daughter, Jean (Alex) Bustamante of Lorton, VA; and seven grandchildren, Jude, Max, Jorie, Caleb, Ethan, Gabriela and Raquel.He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and W.J.; his step-mother, Mathilda Skreener Van Allen; and a brother, Richard F. Van Allen.Jim attended Plymouth High School, served in the U.S. Army, attended Wentworth Military College and earned his B.S. in business from Lakeland College in Sheboygan in 1959. After living in various cities in Illinois, Jim and Mary Ann moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin where they resided for about 40 years. They moved to Bloomington, Illinois four years ago.He was self-employed as an insurance salesman for 27 years. Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Bernards Catholic Church in Green Bay, Epiphany Catholic Church in Normal and the Faith Tabernacle Church of Jesus Christ under Pastor Manuelus Reacco of Green Bay.Jim was a charismatic Christian who answered a calling to the Lay Healing Ministry to the Holy Spirit and was active within this ministry for over 20 years throughout Wisconsin and Illinois. He continued in this ministry as a resident of Heritage Health where he was privileged to pray with many of his fellow residents.
