Thomas "Tom" E. Sleeper Jr Obituary (1940 - 2016)

Thomas "Tom" E. Sleeper Jr, 76, of Normal, passed away at 3:20 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at his home. His funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, where a visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. Cremation rites will be accorded after services. He was born July 23, 1940 in Sterling, IL, son of Thomas "Ed" E. and Anne McCormick Sleeper. He married Judy D. Jones on July 19, 1975 in Bloomington. Surviving are his wife, Judy, of Normal and two daughters, Nichole Sleeper of Normal and Alexis (fiance Timothy Bass) Sleeper of Chicago. Also surviving are two brothers, Bill Sleeper of Galesburg and Steve Sleeper of Omaha, NE and two sisters, Angela (Tom) Helmstetter of Arlington Heights and Kerry Blume of Kewanee. He was a 1958 graduate of Kewanee High School and received his Bachelors Degree in Finance from Notre Dame University in South Bend, IN. Tom is a retired United States Navy Veteran, having served in Vietnam. After seven years of active duty service, he then joined the U.S. Naval Reserves, retiring on November 1, 1992. After his active duty military service, Tom worked for his fathers business, Mechanical Insulation in Kewanee, first as an estimator and sales man and later as the Vice President. He later worked for M O Insulation in Peoria, retiring in 2010. Tom loved reading, watching movies and he devoted every Saturday to Notre Dame football during football season. He was also a history buff, and especially enjoyed learning of the history of McLean County. Other hobbies of Tom include gardening, videography and photography.
